May 23rd, 2006

Day to day is just a blur around here. We are working double time before my bf has to go back to work and then things will slow down.I can remember yesterday, but the day before that escapes me for the moment. Ah yes.. garden planting. I am only half done, but I have 500 feet planted by myself. It took 7 hours and I have half a garden yet to go. Right after I was done for the day we have WONDERFUL downpours. I did not have to water the garden.

That night we went to visit friends (which we have not gotten to do for the longest time and had a BBQ and a very nice outdoor fire to sit around. In the middle of a lightening storm and a downpour or two. It was lovely. I just tossed a wool blanket over me and the (borrowed) baby from time to time when it did rain a bit. Stayed out until 2 am.. I still got up at my normal 6 am, everyone else slept until 11 am.

Yesterday on Sunday, I woke up and looked out the window as I normally do to survey our little part of the world and I saw a black fox running up our East fenceline.

We took another load of garbage from the former owners to the dump and took out the ratty fenceline between us and our only neighbor since it was already squashed to the ground and we need to put up a new fence. The man owner was fine about it and liked what we did, his wife was MADDER THAN THREE WET HENS! She started taking pictures left and right. I came in on the middle of it and had no idea what was going on and started being chatty with her as I have only seen her 3x since we moved here. I think she is Ok with it now, but for a bit I thought we were gonna have a fence war that was going to last for the next 20-30 years.. geeeesh.. We HAD talked previously to the man nextdoor neighbor after all. But we sent over some still hot out of the oven cinnimon rolls and a tractor bucket full of dry birch firewood for their bonfire last night. We are at peace again (I think). We later learned that people for miles around have problems with her.

We got the turkey side of the barn pasture done, but for one section of 15 or less feet when we ran out of fencing. The chicken side of the poulty house was cleaned out of all the straw (loose and baled) and into the shed. Got the appliances (including the kitchen sink) out of there. On the chicken side of the pasture, I now have a marker to keep people from standing on a little Chickadee on her nest of 4 eggs. My bf and I were standing out there planning and surveying and all the sudden this bird exploded out from below our feet. I found the nest and then put a tri-pod over the nest to keep people from ruining her nest (or stepping on her).

My house is a shambles. Were the floors really mopped 2 days ago? I scrubbed the counters and walls and the refrigerator door the day before that for a good hour and they look like the have not seen attention in a year. I did get the counters clean again as I made fresh Ravioili last night for 5 of us. Our cheese, fresh spinach and shredded chicken in them with garlic butter with dillweed over the top. Fresh peas with them and a celery salad. Yummy.

This morning everyone is still in bed. It is 9 am, but we were all up again until midnight. I still get up at 6, but I sorta half slept until 7 am. I will go out to feed animals and milk the goat and do whatever else I need to do this morning and then make coffee to wake everyone up (yep, the same coffee pot which is in the Spring issue). The sun is shining so very well this morning, I want to get some stuff outside done before it gets way too hot.
