Woke up at 5:20 am and started working on the computer here. 7:30 am now and I am ready to take a nap *S*
Yesterday we played all day as the guys had baseball games. We needed an extra girl on the team since I cannot play this year and so I babysat while my friend filled in. It was a nice change from work all day. Though in itself it is tiring. Whether you are playing ball or sitting in the bleachers.
The greenhouse is 99.99999% done. I have tomatoes, peppers, onions and leeks out there already. The gravel needs to be brought in and the woodstove pipe put out the back. It got a bit chilly last night, but all my plants are fine.
I went to 2 livestock auctions yesterday as well (more sitting on bleachers-ugh) and I bid on a Californian junior doe for my bf and a wether young sheep for my friend who had to work. If the cell phone has gone through faster, I almost bought her 2 of them. She will eat this one.
I actually went to auction to look for a milk goat for my friends baby. He is not tolerating formula very well and she does not have enough breastmilk for him. No goats other than ugly Pygmies. Like REALLY ugly Pygmies.
My friend who has never been to an auction before, let alone a livestock auction was so cute. She made me smile a few times to see it from a Newbies perspective. We saw a HUGE sow who must have been well over 1,000 pounds. My friend was saying "How does she move? Surely she must be able to walk.. a load of gravel bogs out truck down, HOW ON EARTH did they get her here".. she talked about that hog all day.
I also saw some Highland Cattle, I REALLY thought about them. But they were not what was on my 'shopping list'... well neither was the rabbit either, but she is worth $45 and pedigreed and I got her for $8. She is a nice animal. I would have paid $25 for her easy. Evidently I missed the best one, my rabbit is the 2nd best Cali at the place. I talked to the lady who sold her. She is going out of them after many years in the fancy (showing). I know I got an excellent deal.
The Highland Cattle were all steers and just recently banded I think. It was hard to tell in the pouring rain in the lots. They were all reds with one black. Alot of hogs at that sale. I miss auctions.. even if I am rare to buy anything. You can make some good contacts. I made 4.
I was also surprised to see Slate turkeys at the auction. ALOT of fancy pheasants went through. I did not see what I used to raise though... Red Golden Pheasants.
Got the garden tilled again on Friday night. Also put in gate posts to keep trespassers off and the horses in. I did not get much done off my list, but apparently I was productive and got some stuff accomplished. I am not to sure if my bf was just trying to make me feel better or not, but he said I got alot done. Other than peeling pine poles, I really cannot remember much of what I did. I must be getting old *S*
The chicks are double on what they are eating and drinking now. I have to pack stuff up there twice a day. Yesterday morning I cleaned out their house and will put all the shavings on the asparagus or strawberry beds.
Fresh French Onion Soup and homemade bread for dinner last night between games. Yummy. More for lunch today since I made enough for 12 of us and only 7 showed up.I think I will take a nap now before the day really begins.
